Platform Revival LLC ("we," "us," or "our") built bwsMemKeeper ("the app") as a private journal for recording your wine, beer, and spirits moments. We designed it to keep your data in your hands. This policy explains what the app handles, where that information lives, and the limited cases where information leaves your device.
In short: We do not have a server, we do not have accounts, and we cannot see your memories. We do not track you, show ads, or use analytics.
Information you create in the app
The app lets you record moments, which may include:
- Beverage details (name, producer/brewery/winery, type, vintage or age, style, region, country, grape, color/appearance, aroma, taste, food pairings)
- Personal notes about the moment and the people you were with
- Dates
- Photos you take or choose from your photo library
- Ingredient label links or barcodes detected from label photos (stored with the moment)
You enter this information yourself. It is stored to help the app function as a personal journal.
Where your information is stored
On your device. Your memories are stored locally on your device.
In your iCloud account (Apple). If you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud enabled, the app uses Apple's CloudKit to store your memories in your own private iCloud database. This keeps your data backed up and in sync across your devices and lets it transfer to a new device. This data resides in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud data and cannot read, retrieve, or share it. If you are not signed into iCloud, the app simply stores your data locally.
We do not operate our own servers and never receive a copy of your memories.
On-device features (no network)
The following work entirely on your device and do not send your library, photos, or taste profile to us or to third parties:
- Your taste — palate patterns derived from your logged moments
- Scan a menu — matching menu or shelf text against your saved moments and on-device taste profile (available after you have logged enough moments in a category)
- Scan translation (iOS 18+) — optional on-device translation of detected producer/style lines via Apple’s Translation framework before matching; menu text is processed on your device (Apple may collect language-pair usage metrics without the text content)
- Note dictation — optional on-device speech recognition to fill Moment and Food Pairing notes; recognition is forced on-device so audio is not sent to Apple’s servers for this feature
- Share cards — optional images you create on device for Your taste, Collection insights, or a Scan verdict (bucket counts and a few names only; a Scan verdict never includes the menu or shelf photo). Shared only when you use the system share sheet
- Label text recognition — reading words from label photos to prefill fields
- QR codes on labels — decoding an ingredient-info link on the device; opening the link uses your browser
Camera and photo library
If you choose to add a photo, the app requests access to your camera and/or photo library. You may photograph bottle labels for a moment, or photograph a menu or shelf for Scan a menu. Photos you add are stored with your memories (on your device and, if enabled, in your private iCloud database). The app accesses your camera and photo library only when you actively take or choose a photo, and only for that purpose.
Backups you export
The app lets you export your memories to a file that you can save to Files, iCloud Drive, or share however you choose. You control where this file goes.
- You may optionally protect the backup with a password. When you do, the file is encrypted on your device using strong, industry-standard encryption (AES-GCM with a key derived from your password). We never receive or store this password — if you lose it, the backup cannot be recovered.
- If you export without a password, the file is not encrypted and anyone who obtains it can read its contents, including your photos and notes. Store and share unencrypted backups carefully.
App Lock (Face ID / Touch ID / passcode)
You can optionally require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode to open the app. This uses Apple's on-device authentication. We never see, collect, or store your biometric information; authentication is handled entirely by your device and Apple's system, which only tells the app whether authentication succeeded.
Optional online lookups
To help prefill beverage names, the app may send short requests over a secure (HTTPS) connection to third-party catalogs only when you are online and use these features:
- While typing — brewery, beer, or spirit name suggestions as you enter text in the log-moment form
- Label barcodes — when you add a label photo, a detected EAN barcode may be sent to look up producer and product name suggestions
- Menu or shelf scan (optional refinement) — after on-device matching, text detected from a list or shelf line (not the photo) may be sent to the same catalogs above to suggest clearer producer or product names
Services used:
- Open Brewery DB — brewery name suggestions
- Open Food Facts — spirit and wine name suggestions, plus barcode product lookup
- Sample APIs — beer name suggestions
These requests contain only your search term, detected line text, or barcode digits. They do not include your identity, photos, other memories, your taste profile, or any account information. Matching against your saved moments and on-device taste profile does not use these services. We do not receive or store these queries. Each service has its own privacy practices; please review their policies (for example, Open Food Facts). You can avoid these requests by staying offline or not using autocomplete, barcode prefill, or scan name refinement.
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect or use any data to track you across apps or websites.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs.
- We do not require an account, email address, or login.
- We do not sell or share your personal information.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud account, you control it. You can delete individual memories in the app (including emptying the Recycle Bin), delete any backup files you created, and remove all app data by deleting the app and clearing its iCloud data through your device's iCloud settings. Deleting the app does not automatically remove data already stored in your iCloud account; you can manage that in your device's Settings.
Security
We use reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) network connections for lookups, optional password-based encryption for exported backups, and the option to lock the app with biometrics or your passcode. Data stored in iCloud is protected by Apple's security. Ingredient label links always show a URL preview before opening in your browser. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we do not maintain any servers that hold your memories.
Children's privacy
The app is intended for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International users
Your data is stored on your device and, if enabled, in your iCloud account; iCloud data is handled by Apple and may be processed in the countries where Apple operates its infrastructure, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the app or on this page.
